Originally from India, Indian Head Massage focuses on the shoulders, neck, head and face and is very beneficial for both physical and emotional health.
Who can benefit from Indian Head Massage? Indian head massage is suitable for men, women and children of all ages. In India the skill is handed down from generation to generation. An expectant mother will be massaged during pregnancy, and young children will be massaged once or twice a week. Head massages will continue to be given throughout life.
How does the treatment work? The treatment involves using the hands to knead, rub and squeeze the body’s soft tissue. This increases blood circulation to the head, neck and shoulders, relieving stiffness as oxygen and nutrients are brought to the area and waste products are removed. Mental fatigue is reduced and concentration improved.
Massaging breaks down fibrositic nodules or “knots” which develop from tension within the muscles. This in turn reduces eyestrain and headaches as the muscular tension is relieved. The release of chemicals in the brain called endorphins will be triggered creating a feeling of contentment and wellbeing.
