Becca West

Becca is a Clinical Psychologist with ten years of experience working within Mental Health Teams in the NHS. Her expertise is in assessing and treating adults experiencing a wide range of psychological, emotional, relational and physical health difficulties.

Becca currently works both privately and within the NHS, in the latter specialising with adults with complex and long standing mental health difficulties. She is registered with the Health and Social Care Professions Council (HCPC) and has Chartered Psychologist status with the British Psychological Society (BPS).

As a Clinical Psychologist Becca has been trained to draw on a number of models, depending on the needs of an individual. This includes aspects of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing and mindfulness.

She has also completed a year of additional specialist psychotherapy training in Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP). The primary goal of ISTDP is to enable an individual to face into their feelings and emotions about past and present experiences that often overwhelm them due to their frightening, threatening, or painful nature. Her therapeutic work is largely informed by this model.

Becca has a particular interest in helping people to develop a meaningful understanding of their difficulties as an alternative to medical frameworks such as diagnosis and medication.  Her work is largely influenced by the following quote “The relevant question in psychiatry shouldn’t be…What’s wrong with you? It should be…What happened to you?” (Eleanor Longden / Dr Jacqui Dillon).
